Indiana jones and the raiders of the lost ark game

Indiana meets up with Sallah, though Marion ends up being captured by the German soldiers, but not before casting the headpiece they were after into Indiana's possesion.

Indiana shoots at the truck that he thinks took Marion, only to have it crash and explode as a result. Thinking he's killed Marion, Indiana mourns as he fails to notice Marion being carried by the real captors. Meanwhile, Sallah tells of the place where, if the Sun shines through the headpiece of the Staff of Ra, the Ark's location will be revealed.

Indy continues on with Sallah and finds the well. Indiana is reluctant to enter, as it is filled with snakes, his worst fear. Sallah pushes Indiana in anyway, and the two make their way to the Ark by solving numerous intricate puzzles. Sallah carries the Ark out of the well, but is captured by the enemy troops who noticed Indiana earlier, who are now accompanied by Belloq and Major Toht. Major Toht drops the recently captured Marion who is now wearing an evening dress suplied by Belloq into the well with Indiana, and then seals the place as the troops take the Ark.

Indiana and Marion eventually manage to find a way out of the well through a weak stone wall after defeating a giant snake. Indy and Marion comically dispatch several troops that attempt to stop them, then fight their way through the German camps in order to retrieve the Ark. They find the Ark onboard a transport plane, but have to battle a tough Enemy Boxer who obstructs their way. The boxer is decapitated by one of the plane's propellers, and Indiana and Marion discover that Belloq, Major Toht and German military strategist, Colonel Dietrich have loaded the Ark onto a truck and driven away.

Sallah shows up in time with his own truck to help Indiana catch up to the German truck, board it, finally retrieve the ark and send Belloq , Major Toht ,and Colonel Dietrich 's car to a screeching halt in the desert.

Indiana and Marion say goodbye to Sallah as they board a cargo ship captained by Captain Katanga , who has agreed to transport the Ark. You activate one of a maximum of six objects Indy carries by moving left or right on the player one joystick. Its fire button is used to get rid of the selected item, which usually returns to its starting location.

Indy starts with one bag of coins which he can use by 'activating' it, stepping below the black or white sheik and pressing the player one joystick fire button to buy the parachute or flute, respectively. When the flute is activated a tune plays, protecting Indy from snakes and tsetse flies.

Your options are limited until your find the way in to the Temple of the Ancients. One method is to detonate the grenade in order to blast a hole in the wall leading to the Temple Entrance. However, this costs you points at the end of the game. The grenade goes off a few seconds after you activate it, giving you time to leave the screen and avoid losing a life.

If you lose the grenade or use it in the wrong place you should either reset the game or look for the second method. Whichever method you use, you can usually leave the Temple Entrance through either exit.

In the four new temple rooms, you can find several items, including inexhaustible bags of coins in the Treasure Room, but beware the snake! Other dangers include a spider, tsetse flies, temple guardian and dungeon. The Room of the Shining Light has a dungeon you are sent to if you touch something, including the guardian.

Usually you can break out of the dungeon by whip or gun, but if you don't have either, a secret exit may appear at the right time. Using the secret exit causes barriers to go up in the Temple Entrance and you lose points at the end of the game.

You then have to go through the Spider Room. You lose a life if the spider touches you, usually after shooting you. Timing is also important for two other situations, which is why one item is a timepiece; though if you're patient you don't need it to win the game.

When the timepiece is active, press the player two fire button to show the current of eight time periods. Once you've explored the temple, items can be used to navigate the Mesa Field without losing a life and to discover the Map Room.

A dot circles Indy representing a grappling hook. Move the controller to widen or shorten its rotation. Press the player two fire button to jump. The screen containing the Map Room is dangerous in that one misstep and you fall to the Valley of Poison. There's only a thin strip you can walk up and down. One object is needed to get Indy off the strip and into the correct position in the Map Room, then you switch to activate the other object, then you wait for the right time of day, when the sun shines down causing a blinking light to appear on the map of the mesas, showing where the Ark is buried.

You should see the dirt slowly disappear. The flute gives immunity. Maybe it's supposed to be Toth? Just run and avoid the tsetse flies. Anyway, one type has black and grey coloring, and the other has lighter colors. Both run in horizontal lines, some fast, some slow. Just dodge them. Gotta love the 's graphics! See "Frequently Asked Questions" for more details. The following is a walkthough of one possible solution. This is just a basic, step-by-step way to beat the game.

No secrets are included, and your final score won't be high enough for the special signature to appear. You will solve it fairly quickly though, and if you've been tearing your hair out trying to figure out what to do then you'll definitely appreciate it.

You'll start in the Entrance Room. Dodge the snake and grab the whip. Run off the bottom of the screen. Now you're in the Marketplace. Search all three baskets for the key, the gun, and the grenade. If you want to, you can buy a flute, but it's not necessary. Don't get the parachute yet. Once you've got all three items from the baskets, wait for about fifteen seconds and check all three again the snake will be after you so be careful. The medallion should appear in one of the baskets and will be added to your inventory.

If not, wait another seconds and try again. Repeat until you finally get it. Go back up to the Entrance Room. Place Indy next to the right side wall, about a little more than halfway up. Use the grenade here and quickly run back to the Marketplace.

Once at the Marketplace, go back up and you should see a giant hole in the wall. Go through the hole to the Temple Entrance. In the Temple Entrance, go to the exit in the southeast corner. You can grab the timepiece on your way if you want to.

You'll now be in one of the dungeons. Use the whip or the gun and get yourself out. Now go to the right-side wall and hold up and right. Eventually you'll pop into the Treasure Room. Now here's the tricky part If there's no room in your inventory, drop the gun and the flute. You don't really need those anymore.

Grab the gold and see if the ankh appears. If it does, grab it. If not, leave the room and go back and try again drop gold if you need more inventory space, but you MUST end up with three bags!

Once you get the ankh, leave the room and you'll end up in a dungeon. Now use the ankh and you'll transport yourself to the Mesa Field. Use the hook to travel down the screen and go to the very bottom mesa if you miss and start falling, use the ankh again to teleport back to the field. Once at the bottom mesa, drop the ankh and highlight the key. Now stand right in the middle of this mesa and walk straight down. Hopefully you'll be lined up correctly so you'll be walking on the strip instead of air.

Once you leave the Mesa Field you should see the Map Room. With the key highlighted, you can now enter that box that appears underneath. Go inside and stand perfectly in the center. Once done, you can now highlight the medallion and wait for the sun to rise. Check the timepiece to see what time it is. The sun rises when the clock hand is at the 12 o'clock position. When the sun rises, you should see one of the mesas on the map start flashing. This is the mesa on the Mesa Field that has the Ark.

Remember it! Highlight the key again and walk back to the left-hand strip. Walk down. You'll now be in the Thieves' Den. Dodge the thieves and quickly run straight down to the Black Market. Now you need to buy a shovel for two bags of gold. Don't bother with the bullets or the basket. Once you've got the shovel, go to the northeast corner wall and go through it to end up at the Marketplace.

Now buy a parachute. Once you've got the parachute and the shovel you can basically dump any other items you've got. I'd personally keep the whip because you never know if you'll end up fighting snakes or getting caught in a dungeon again. Now go back to the treasure room and get the ankh again. You don't need to keep any gold this time. Once you've got the ankh, leave the room and use it to transport yourself back to the Mesa Field. Use the hook to go to the mesa that was flashing in the Map Room.

Again, if you fall just use the ankh to try again. Once you're at the mesa with the Ark, drop the ankh and highlight the parachute. DON'T use it yet!

Okay, here's the most difficult part of the game. You need to now drop off the mesa and use the parachute while falling. Once done, you need to guide yourself under the tree branch and into the hole. Basically what I do is activate the chute the second I start falling and start maneuvering my way over to the hole.

Once you get near it it'll suck you in. However, if you touch the branch your chute will break and you'll fall and die. If you made it, you'll end up in the Well of Souls.

Quickly drop the parachute before a thief can come near you. Dodge the thieves to the pile of dirt at the bottom. Highlight the shovel and walk back and forth across the dirt, pushing the right joystick button as you do so.
